Special Issues in Game Studies – Esport Cultures

This online course gives an overview of the quickly developing field of competitive gaming, covering various forms of games, and the main concepts used. The main actors and their roles will discussed, with special emphasis on audiences and audience practices, both in online streams and LAN events. The course also looks at the historical development of competitive gaming since the first Arcade Game tournaments. Other topics include sportification and the relation of esports to traditional sports and physical exercise, esport transmediality, and esports as business and profession. The course consists of lectures, selection of research literature, and assignments.

Lean Startups

They will work on their own idea or develop a new business idea jointly from scratch. The students can simulate the life of a startup as a course exercise or establish a real company. The core goal of the course is to gain an increased understanding of how emergent innovations translate into commercial reality and might transform society. This course assumes that you have already completed your bachelor’s studies and you are currently doing your master’s or doctoral studies.

Growth Hacking

This course focuses on growing your digital marketing results faster through growth hacking techniques, methods, tools, and practices! The student will understand the benefits of the most useful metrics such as lean analytics, web traffic, digital conversion funnels, Lifetime Value, and Customer Acquisition Cost. A continuous experimentation model is introduced to guide business growth through rapid experiments. Experiments may involve a combination of marketing, software development, sales, service design, and analytics techniques. A basic understanding of web technologies (e.g., online marketing, email marketing, search engine optimization) is beneficial for the course.
