Instructions for cross-institutional studies, from Gradia, Norssi to JAMK

1. You have found an interesting study, enrol to JAMK

Orientation studies (1–2 ECTS credits) have been designed for secondary stage students, in particular.
1 credit = about 27 hours of work
2 credits = about 54 hours of work
2 credits = one upper secondary school course

The contribution needed includes online and contact teaching as well as independent working. Studies mainly take place online. As a Gradia upper secondary school student, you will also have the chance to take part in the studies at an institute of higher education during the Korkeakouluviikko event (Higher Education Week).

2. Book an appointment

Book an appointment with the guidance counsellor or EduFutura coordinator through Wilma. In the meeting, make sure that the EduFutura higher education studies you are planning are suitable for you and enrol in the studies together.

In registeration use your student e-mail.  For the student type, select ‘Degree student’. When you have registered, further instructions will be sent to you by e-mail.

More detailed instructions for getting your credentials through the Vetuma service, among others, will be sent to you in an e-mail within 1–7 days after your registration. If the course is already full, you can enrol in a queue.

Problems with signing in? Contact help services through avoinamk (at) jamk.fi

3. You will study in JAMK’s learning environment

Before your studies start, you will receive a student letter via e-mail. The letter hase.g. a confirmation of the start of your studies, information about the study schedule and contact persons. In the letter, you will be instructed to take the steps described below before starting your studies.

NOTE! The student letters are often directed to junk mail, so please also remember to check the junk mail folder in your inbox and mark the message as not-junk.

Check out the guide to new users and especially the Vetuma instructions on how to apply for user credentials. Get your personal login and password from the Vetuma service.

You need online banking credentials or a mobile certificate to log into Vetuma. If you do not have these, please contact: avoinamk@jamk.fi. The user login of new students is in the format AA + four numbers.

If you have previously studied in JAMK’s open university, your user login will remain the same (letter + four numbers). You can access all JAMK systems with your user login.

4. Dive into your studies!

Join in the studies according to the schedule. Distance learning is mostly done via Moodle online learning environment. You can access the online environment with your JAMK login. The workrooms for the study units will open when the studies start.

Your Moodle login will be automatically activated when you are approved as a student for the study period. Log in to Moodle. If you cannot see your study unit in the learning environment right away, sign out and then log in again. Your course should become visible to you in Moodle within two days, at the latest.

In some cases if the study unit will be implemented in Optima, the online learning environment can be accessed via https://optima.jamk.fi. Read the instructions for signing in to Optima.

5. Transfer your study credits

Study credits are transferred via the national Koski service: https://koski.opintopolku.fi/koski.

Instructions for transferring your study credit:
1. Click ‘Login’ and use your preferred authentication method to confirm your identity.
2. Click ‘Continue to the service’. Select ‘Share study credit information’.
3. Check the box of the study unit you wish to transfer and click ‘Share the selected studies’.
4. The service will give you a link for sharing the credits, click ‘Copy link’ (If necessary: ‘Allow access’).

The link will be copied onto your clipboard, from there you can attach it to your e-mail. Send the e-mail to your EduFutura coordinator, who will give you further instructions on how to include the credit in your records.

6. Reward yourself for your new competence!

When you have completed your study unit, the course and its grade will be recorded in JAMK’s system. After this, it has to be transferred to the records of your own institute. This can be done via the Puro service, through which you can send the record of your studies to the study register of your educational institute.

7. You have now completed a study unit at an institute of higher education!

Congratulations 🙂 You have now completed a study unit at an institute of higher education. In the future, if you apply for an EduFutura institute of higher education (JAMK, JYU), you can also include this study unit in your higher education degree studies. If you apply for another institute of higher education, remember to report the completed study unit to their records, too.
